Don't waste your time on me: Bipasha Basu

Bipasha Basu isn't enjoying the way her relationship with John Abraham is being linked to her absence in the new shampoo ad for the brand they they endorse.

"People can say what they like. They do that anyway, no matter what explanations we give. John and I are not answerable to anyone."

Regarding the speculation about John doing the shampoo ad with another model, Bipasha sighs, "When we signed the contract for the shampoo we didn't even know we'd be doing any of their ads together."

Bipasha and John signed their contracts separately. "And my association with that brand of shampoo continues. At this point of time John and I are advertising different brands of shampoo. So the question of me being replaced in the new ad doesn't arise. People can continue to speculate as much as they like. It doesn't bother me."

All the loose talk about the status of her relationship with John has begun to annoy Bipasha. "Let them say what they like. My life is mine alone. I'm answerable only to myself, my family and my close friends.

Beyond that, does it really matter? What I'm doing in my personal life shouldn't be of any consequence to anyone except me. I mean no harm to anyone. So why harm me with such endless speculation?"

The gossip mongers have been going to town with the now-off-now-on observations. Says Bipasha. "Precious news space shouldn't be wasted on such trivia. There's so much more worth writing about. From now I won't discuss my private life in print."

Bipasha Basu sings in Dhoom 2

Bipasha has already created waves by posing in a bikini in the Dhoom 2 theatrical promo. And now, we have learnt that Bips has also sung a song in the film. According to sources, Bipasha has sung some lines in the track called ‘My Name Is Ali’ in the film. From the lyrics, we can assume that the song would be focused on Uday Chopra since his character s name is Ali. Who knows, this might just be another ‘Dilbara’ like number where Uday is hitting on Bips. The music of the film is done by Pritam who was also responsible for the foot tapping music of Dhoom. And when we checked with Pritam on this, as expected, he refused to comment. The suspense will be unveiled on October 19 when the music of the film is being released.

Dhoom 2 is a sequel to Dhoom and stars Hrithik Roshan, Aishwarya Rai, Abhishek Bachchan, Uday Chopra and Bipasha Basu. The film is an action-thriller and is directed by Sanjay Gadhvi under the banner of Yash Raj Films.

Bipasha Basu on Dhoom 2

Bipasha Basu seems to be on a roll these days. After starring in the critically acclaimed Omkara, the actress will now be seen in Yash Raj's Dhoom 2. The sequel promises to be exciting as the star cast boasts of Bollywood A-listers like Aishwarya Rai, Hritik Roshan, and Abhishek Bachchan, to name a few.

"Dhoom 2 has a fantastic team. Dhoom has already laid the foundation of Dhoom 2 being wanted to be watched. There are a lot of people who want to watch Dhoom 2. So yes, we can meet the expectation because it has a fantastic storyline, great looking people, great style content, great action, great comedy, and great music,” says Bipasha. On the films star studded cast, Bipasha says, “I think the chemistry of all the these actors will be seen for the very first time. I think its very interesting."

Basu's new look for Dhoom 2 is the talk of town. The actress does admit to a lot of gym sessions behind her new svelte figure. "I worked really hard. I was paranoid because of the kind of costumes I wanted to wear for the particular kind of look that I have. I worked out really hard because I never wanted to look obese in the costumes or anything like overtly sexual. I wanted to look just right. I wanted to look athletic and that’s how I look,” says Bipasha.

How the audience reacts to Dhoom 2 needs to be seen; but in the meanwhile, the actress is busy collecting compliments on her newly acquired physical status!

I panicked when I saw so many lecherous men: Bipasha Basu

By Subhash K. Jha, IANS

Director Vishal Bharadwaj has a knack for making all his actors look completely different on screen. His film "Omkara" is no different.

Ajay Devgan, Kareena Kapoor, Saif Ali Khan, Konkona SenSharma and Bipasha Basu are seen speaking, behaving and acting differently in the film.

Bipasha, who had two sizzling item songs in "Omkara", was very nervous.

"The first day when I went on the set to perform the 'Bidee jalai le' song in 'Omkara', I saw the crowd, I panicked and ran away," Bipasha, who was harassed by two organisers in New Jersey where she was invited to take part in Independence Day celebrations, told IANS.

"I had never seen so many unshaven, unkempt and lecherous men in a crowded sweaty place. When I saw what I had got myself into, I got really scared. And let me say I don't get easily scared.

"On top of it all, Saif came up to me and whispered, 'Are you...like... scared? Don't worry. You just dance. We'll take care of you. If anything happens just tell us.' But once I started to dance, it was okay. Later, I came to know they were all fine actors. They had been preparing for the dirty Uttar Pradesh bhaiya look for weeks."

Bipasha is amazed at the authenticity of the presentation of "Omkara", a film based on Shakespeare's "Othello". Though she has earlier done a realistic film - Prakash Jha's "Apaharan" about crime in the cow-belt - she wasn't really an integral part of the drama there.

"Doing item songs can get very boring. But the ones in 'Omkara' are special. I've the highest regard for Vishal. Even being cast in a small part in his cinema is an honour. Space wise I've a small role in 'Omkara' but the projection is amazing.

"I really like one thing about myself. I really try to look and behave like the character I play. And no matter how small my part, everyone tells me I'm convincing. As an actor that's the biggest compliment I can get."

Bipasha is frank enough to admit "Omkara" isn't quite her film.

"It's definitely about the Ajay-Kareena love story. My character Billo started off as a special appearance. My character is relevant to the story. People who have seen the film have enjoyed Billo. There's a lot of entertainment value attached to my character. Billo is loud, aggressive and fun while everyone in the plot is serious."

She's the spot of sunshine in the dark drama.

"'Omkara' is a serious film. I provide the light moments. When Vishal narrated the role to me, I told him it sounded like a special appearance. I was so thrilled when he told me that the first member of the cast that came to his mind was me as Billo.

"I must say Vishal has great vision. Whenever a dancer's role comes to me, I get the coldest feet in the world. It's quite crazy. But my mind-blocks have gone."

Bipasha chuckles when she recalls shooting the "Namak" item-song.

"That's my favourite among my two item songs. Looking at the number you wouldn't think it was that tough. But when I heard the song, it sounded difficult. And to lip-sync Rekha Bharadwaj's intricate rendition was doubly tough.

"On top of that they got a dance-guruji Bhushan Lakhandri instead of a routine choreographer to do the number. I fainted. I thought he'd expect me to be as trained and skilled in dancing as Madhuri Dixit or Aishwarya Rai. The only dancing I knew was going mad in a disco."

"I did it without any training whatsoever. But in spite of my reservations Bhushanji and Vishal had faith in me. I pulled it off."

Bipasha Basu accuses organizers of harassment

By IndiaFM

Bipasha Basu is currently in the U.S. The purpose of her visit was to lead the India Day Parade at Edison Township, New Jersey. Unfortunately, she has come out of the event with a very bitter experience.

She was supposed to lead the parade, organized by the Indian Business Association, on August 13th. It was scheduled to go through New Jersey’s Oak Tree Road area, which is populated by a lot of Indians. About 10,000 Indians had gathered in the area. After waiting for two hours, Bipasha had still not turned up. She appeared on stage soon after, and began addressing the crowd. She publicly accused two of the organizers, who escorted her to the parade, of harassing her physically and mentally. She cited the same reason for turning up late. The organizers tried to stop her from talking. She then stated that they did not want her to speak the truth. However, the crowd insisted that she speak. Visibly upset, Bipasha went on to say that her profession demanded respect and she felt let down by the behavior meted out to her.

Bipasha left after talking to the crowds. The remaining function took place peacefully. The organizers on their part said Bipasha had violated the contract by arriving late. They also said that they would investigate the allegations and take the necessary action.

"There was no molestation" - Bipasha

Joginder Tuteja, IndiaGlitz

In a public declaration, Bipasha Basu has come clear on the molestation theory that has been making rounds over last couple of days.

She has clarified that there was no molestation of sorts and it was just a matter of event being highly disorganized event. She also added that the reports were untrue and it was a clear case of sensationalism.

For starters, it was earlier reported that Bipasha Basu had publicly accused two organizers of an India Day parade at Edison Township, New Jersey, of harassing her physically and mentally in the car while being taken to the parade.

With Bipasha coming up with an official statement, it should rest of the matters for those who were hell bent on creating a story out of this matter.

Bipasha opts out of RGV film

By IndiaFM

Ram Gopal Varma's new film Darling is going through a mammoth change in its starcast ever since it's inception. The film earlier titled Baby was initially supposed to be starring Randeep Hooda but he subsequently opted out of the film. He was replaced by Fardeen Khan.

Then the leading lady was supposed to be Lara Dutta who too opted out of the film and Esha Deol took the advantage by signing up. Now the latest buzz is that the other leading lady Bipasha Basu has too walked out of the film citing date problems. The person who has taken advantage of the situation is none other than Isha Koppikar.

Incidentally Isha has another RGV film in hand Shabri where she plays the title role. Ram Gopal Varma understood Bipasha's problem and did not waste time in replacing her. Incidentally Isha had recently walked out of Suneel Darshan's Shaka Laka Boom Boom.

Bipasha Basu

This five feet eight inches tall light-eyed, Kolkata girl, came into the limelight when she won the Famous Ford Supermodels Contest at the tender age of 17. She also won the Tulips Miss Super Vivacious in the same contest.

Many models have tried to break into the film industry, but few have met with such swift and celebrated success as Bipasha Basu.

A newcomer to Bollywood, Bipasha's debut role in Ajnabee has won her much praise and a slew of film offers. It has also embroiled her in a controversy surrounding her alleged quarrel with Ajnabee co-star Kareena Kapoor. The two apparently fell out when Bipashaturned to Kareena's wardrobe consultant for advice. Kareena did not appreciate her assistant's "defection" to the opposite camp, and, according to one film magazine, retaliated by calling Bipasha a 'kali bilii' ['black cat' -- an insult regarding the shade of Basu's skin].

Bipasha is a little sick of the topic: "I'm not denying the tension between Kareena and me. Yet I'm not looking to take her on. Ajnabee is over and done with. I'm fast moving ahead... and I've no desire to trade insults with Kareena or anyone. I hate it when the press puts words in my mouth." (Filmfare, Jan. 2002) Yet at the same time, she tells G Magazine that she won't work with Kareena again. "There's too much negativity. Too much has been written about our problem. It's best for us to avoid one another. I would prefer to work in surroundings where I am comfortable."

Bipasha's relationship with fellow model and aspiring actor Dino Mora also provides grist for the gossip mill, which is rife with speculation regarding an impending breakup. Often her best friend, Milind Soman, yet another model and aspiring actor, is cited as the cause. "I don't see what the speculation is all about," Bipasha tells G Magazine. "The day I decide not to be with Dino I will say so... Still people insist on linking me to my friends or every guy I am seen or working with. This kind of loose talk really damages personal relationships. I have always acknowledged Dino as my boyfriend. But now I feel it would have helped had I remained quiet about it. I have nothing to hide. I am not ashamed of my life. I am very happy with my boyfriend and everyone I am working with knows it. Dino and I have our ups and downs like any other couple. If a relationship is all smooth, it isn't a relationship. We both are there for each other always. But we have both made a conscious decision to concentrate on our careers for the time being. Magazines insist that Dino and I have split up. Maybe they should ask us too. Every second day, I am linked with a different man. Earlier it was Akshay Kumar, now it's Milind Soman. Milind's my best friend, but I am constantly linked with him."

In an industry fixated on "gori" [pale-skinned] beauty, Bipasha
scoffs at the suggestion that her looks will impede her film career. "There
are a lot of dusky girls in the industry today. The fair, light-eyed beauty
is the average Indian man's fantasy, but the youngsters love the sultry, sensuous
dark-eyed look. Internationally, women like Jennifer Lopez are the rage. I have
never encountered any bias due to my complexion. Rather, it has been appreciated."
Actually, in regards to acting, her greatest challenge yet is the dance routines:
"Though I love dancing, the choreographed Hindi film numbers are something else.
To be honest, I have yet to master the bump and grind routine. Seeing all these
actresses do it so well gives me a huge complex.

Personal Quotes

"Sexy in India, is not considered positive. But, with today's crop of fresh faces, in the modeling arena, being sexy is an asset."

"I think my first film will create an image, which I will immediately try to break away from. I have a sexy, glamour doll image which I want to get out of. But if nothing else works out, I shall cash in on it. I don't have any dream role in mind, I want to try out everything."

"I actually wanted to be a doctor. But doing all those horrid rat dissections made me faint. I studied science till the 12th standard and later took up commerce. I was planning to do chartered accountancy, but fate had something else in store for me."

"I am the boss in my life. I decide when to charge more and when not to. I live in my own zone. I don't hurt anyone and I am very transparent. I don't keep people hanging in life." (2005)

"I am doing pretty well for myself, and I am proud to be the person I am. If people write that I am a mean person when it comes to money, then let them write it!" (2005)

"Somebody cheated me when I was a young model. I had a bad experience, and was running from court to court. So I understand what a contract is. I sit with my lawyer and chartered accountant before signing a contract. I learned very early in life how one gets cheated. So I am very careful now when it comes to money issues." (2005)

"If a girl wears a shirt and a skirt, does she become more sensuous? I think a girl in a sari is more sensuous than a girl in a skirt. In my opinion, a wet sari is the most sensuous." (2005)

Every other girl is taking off her clothes just for the heck of it and I don't want to be in that category. I can never be cheap or vulgar.
